Covid-19 Positivity Rate Rises to 15.3% as 1,506 Test Positive

Kenya has recorded a significant increase in Covid-19 cases, with 1,506 new cases announced in the last 24 hours. This brings the national tally to 224,400, according to the Ministry of Health.

On Wednesday, 18th August, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced the new cases, which were from the 9,840 samples tested. The cumulative number of tests now stands at 2,278,763, with a positivity rate of 15.3 per cent.

Of the new cases, 1,473 are Kenyans, while 33 are foreigners. The cases are spread across various age groups, with the youngest being a five-month-old child and the oldest being 102 years old.

Meanwhile, 1,538 patients have recovered from the disease, with 1,352 recovering at home and 186 in various health facilities. The total number of recoveries now stands at 207,450.

The Covid-19 death toll has risen to 4,378 after 24 more patients succumbed to the disease.

There are currently 2,054 patients admitted in various health facilities across the country, while another 8,408 are on Home Based Isolation and Care. Additionally, 161 patients are in Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 86 are on ventilatory support, and 75 on supplemental oxygen.

The new cases were spread across various counties, with Nairobi recording the highest number of cases at 512, followed by Kiambu with 162 cases.
