Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Sam Ojwang has launched a ten-day operation to curb alcohol usage among government employees, following an increase in reported cases of drunkenness during working hours.
Speaking during a security meeting in Museum Hall, Kitale Town, Commissioner Ojwang stated that government offices are not rehab centers for employees to nurse their hangovers.
“Government offices are not rehab centres for people to nurse their hangovers after being drunk. We are going to search for such officers and interdict them to clean up the civil service,” he said.
As part of the operation, dubbed “Operation Fagia Maliza Pombe Haramu Bangi Na Lotto,” the county boss has vowed to target illicit brew sellers who have been selling to government officials and the public.
Commissioner Ojwang also warned that areas that have declared themselves as no-go zones for alcohol selling, such as Folkland, will not be spared.
