On July 23, 2021, a domestic dispute turned violent in Gachui village, Dagoretti, Nairobi, when Pamela Mwendwa allegedly poured boiling water on her husband, Sebastian Irukan.
According to court records, the couple, who have a child together, had been experiencing relationship issues.
Ms. Mwendwa told the court that her husband returned home with another woman, telling her she had found the right one.
She claimed the other woman instructed her to leave the house, which led to a confrontation with her husband.
Ms. Mwendwa stated, 'I started to pack to leave but before I finished, my husband took water that I was boiling to make tea and put it in a container, and approached me. We had a tussle before he burnt me and accidentally the water fell on him.'
However, police reports suggest that Ms. Mwendwa had asked Irukan about the woman he had been seen with and attacked him with the water before leaving for work.
Irukan suffered injuries to his neck, shoulder, and abdomen, and was helped out of the house by neighbors who heard him screaming.
He was taken to a hospital for treatment before reporting the incident to the police, leading to Ms. Mwendwa's arrest.
She was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000 and an alternative bond of a similar amount. The case will be mentioned on August 30, 2021.
