Leah Wangari Gatonye, Kilimani Mums Uncensored Founder, Dies in US Road Accident

Leah Wangari Gatonye, a 41-year-old mother and founder of the popular Kilimani Mums Uncensored Facebook group, died on August 15, 2021, after a tragic road accident in South Carolina, US.

According to the Beaufort County Coroner, David Ott, Wangari was involved in a crash on Red Cedar Street on August 1, 2021, while driving under the influence. She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and child endangerment.

After being cleared by hospital staff, Wangari was taken back to jail, but a day later, she was found on the floor of her cell coughing up blood. She was rushed back to the hospital and later flown to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston, where she died from her injuries.

Wangari was an active social media user and Secretary of the Kenyan Diaspora Foundation. An obituary seen by this reporter stated that the family had received overwhelming messages of sympathy and support.
