On July 2, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as a Special Envoy to the Republic of South Sudan, a move seen as a furtherance of Kenya's commitment towards shared prosperity in the region.
The appointment follows a two-day State Visit to Kenya by South Sudan President Salva Kiir, and is expected to steer the country's pursuit of lasting peace and security in South Sudan.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Musyoka's role will involve accelerating the implementation of the Recitalized-Agreement on Conflict Resolution in South Sudan (R-AGROSS), in particular.
"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs congratulates Hon. Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka on his appointment and stands ready to support the Special Envoy in the delivery of his mandate," the Ministry stated.
