On Tuesday, 17th August, the Ministry of Health confirmed 1,488 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the national tally to 222,894.
The new cases were detected from 9,773 samples tested, increasing the country's cumulative tests to 2,268,923, with a positivity rate of 15.2 per cent.
Of the new cases, 1,442 were Kenyans, while 46 were foreigners, with 785 females and 703 males. The youngest case was a three-month-old baby, and the oldest was 99 years old.
Health Cabinet Secretary Kagwe announced that 1,814 patients had recovered from the disease, with 1,576 from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program and 238 from various health facilities countrywide. The total number of recoveries now stands at 205,912.
The national death toll rose to 4,354, after four more patients succumbed to the virus.
As of August 16th, 2021, a total of 2,101,403 vaccines had been administered across the country, with 1,346,861 first doses and 754,542 second doses. The uptake of the second dose among those who received their first dose was at 56 per cent, with the majority being males at 55 per cent and females at 45 per cent.
