PS Kibicho Faces Possible Jail Sentence ¶
Attorney General Kihara Kariuki and Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho are staring at a possible jail term over their failure to pay Ksh5.3 million compensation to Lucy Nduta, following the fatal shooting of her kin, Edward Kuria, in 2009.
According to reports, Nduta sued the two officials after her kin was fatally shot on September 24, 2009, in Nairobi. Kariuki has defended himself, claiming that sentencing him and Kibicho would be shameful to the country. He has pledged to have the National Treasury remit the money to Nduta.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that they have in custody a prime suspect in the murder of four men in Kitengela. The suspect, Benson Melonyie ole Mungai, aged 40, was apprehended by detectives on Monday, August 16.
On Sunday, August 15, the Private Association of Bikers staged peaceful demonstrations outside Kitengela Police Station, demanding justice for their fallen comrades.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has also announced cash rewards for Kenyan athletes who participated in the recently ended 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Gold medal winners were handed cheques of Ksh1 million, while silver medal winners received Ksh750,000, and bronze medal winners received Ksh500,000.
A key witness to the murder of ex-deputy governor Kenneth Kamto has shed light on events building up to his demise. Kiteme, who is now a prosecution witness, revealed that the raid had been premeditated and that he and his accomplices carefully schemed a burglary that had to be successful.
