On January 29, 2021, a couple's night at the Maiyan Villa Resort in Nanyuki took a disturbing turn when Meru Senator Mithika Linturi allegedly sneaked into their hotel room and attempted to rape the woman.

The incident unfolded when the woman, who was with her husband and friends, retired to their room but left the door unlocked. At around 3 am, she heard the door unlock and assumed it was her husband, only to find a stranger in her bed.

According to the woman's report, the stranger did not utter a word while inappropriately touching her. However, 30 minutes later, the woman heard a knock on the door and found her husband standing outside. Upon switching on the lights, they both realized that there was a stranger in their bed.

One of their friends identified the stranger as Senator Linturi, who was also a guest at the resort and had a room adjacent to the couple's. It is unclear if Linturi confused his villa with that of the couple.

The woman alleged that Linturi offered to settle the matter amicably, offering them Sh 200,000 in cash and a Sh 800,000 cheque. However, he later reported them for extorting him, and the couple decided to file a complaint against him.

Linturi has since moved to court, seeking to stop the police from arresting or charging him with the offenses of attempted rape and indecent act with an adult. He argues that the alleged attempted rape charge was never disclosed to him or the court when he filed and got orders to stop his forgery charge in May this year.
