On August 15, 2021, Jane Muthoni, a former principal of Icaciri Secondary School, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of her husband, Solomon Mwangi, the principal of Kiru Boys High School.

Muthoni, currently imprisoned at Langata Women's Prison, claims that life has been tough for her since the sentencing. She asserts that she loved her husband and that the truth behind his murder will eventually be revealed.

According to Muthoni, she and her husband lived in harmony, dispelling rumors from her in-laws that she was a problematic wife.

On June 2021, a Nakuru High Court sentenced Muthoni and her co-accused, Isaac Ng'ang'a, to 30 years in jail for the murder of Mwangi, who was killed between November 6 and 11, 2016, after several months of planning.
