Kenyan Arrested in Philippines for IED and Firearms in Hotel Room

On July 2, 2019, a Kenyan national, Cholo Abdi Abdullah, was arrested in the Philippines after authorities discovered an improvised explosive device (IED) and firearms in his hotel room.

Abdullah, a suspected member of Al Qaeda since 2012, had been under police scrutiny for a long time.

According to ABS-CBN, Abdullah had traveled to the Philippines to study aviation.

He remains under arrest in the Philippines as investigations continue.

A Twitter user shared a photo of the seized items.

Abdullah's arrest comes as a surprise to many, given his alleged ties to a terrorist organization.
