On July 2, 2019, Tottenham made a significant move in the transfer market by signing French international midfielder Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon for a record-breaking fee.
The initial fee for Ndombele's transfer was 60 million euros (£54 million), with an additional 10 million euros in add-ons, bringing the total potential cost to Sh8.1 billion (70 million euros, $79 million, £63 million).
This deal surpasses Tottenham's previous record, which was set in 2017 when the club spent £42 million ($53 million) on defender Davinson Sanchez.
Tottenham's new signing, Ndombele, has signed a contract with the club until 2025 and is expected to bring significant talent to the team.
"We are delighted to announce the signing of Tanguy Ndombele," Tottenham said in a statement.
"The France international central midfielder has signed a contract with the Club until 2025."
With this signing, Tottenham has demonstrated its ambition to compete with top clubs in Europe, following their move into a new 62,000-capacity stadium last season.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has challenged the club to match his ambition after reaching the Champions League final for the first time.
