On July 1, 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed visiting South Sudan President Salva Kiir to Kenya, marking the start of a two-day state visit.

During the visit, Uhuru pledged to support Kiir and announced that Kenya would allocate 10 acres of land at the Naivasha Inland Container Depot (ICD) for South Sudan to set up a container depot.

The move is aimed at easing the movement of goods between the two countries and strengthening existing trade ties.

Kenya had previously offered Uganda land in Naivasha to set up a dry port in March 2018.

Uhuru's announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to bolster business, peace, and diplomatic relations between Nairobi and Juba.

Uhuru has been at the forefront of peace talks aimed at finding a lasting solution to political instability in South Sudan.
