On a day when Senegal's Sadio Mane was awarded man-of-the-match, Kenya's goalkeeper Patrick Matasi stole the show with a series of breathtaking saves, including two penalty stops on Mane.
Published on July 2, 2019, Matasi's heroics kept Kenya in the game for at least the first 60 minutes of their Group C encounter.
Matasi's most notable save came in the 27th minute when he dived to hold onto Mane's penalty kick. He almost denied Mane another penalty kick midway through the second half.
"The moment he put the ball down and I looked in his eyes I knew where he was going to hit the ball and I saved it. Even the second penalty, the way he stood I knew which direction he was going to place the ball. You saw, I dived in the right direction but could not reach the ball," Matasi revealed.
Matasi's bravery was on full display as he charged out to deny Idrissa Gueye at near point-blank range and then showed incredible agility to leap and scoop away Ismaila Sarr's beautiful header.
