Robert Alai, a Kenyan blogger, has been released on bail after being charged with spreading images of deceased police officers.
Alai was charged with spreading images of the deceased police officers who were killed in an ambush by Al Shabaab militants in Wajir.
According to the police, Alai shared the images on a WhatsApp group, which could have compromised national security.
Alai was also charged with spreading false information on Twitter about the deceased police officers.
His lawyer, Paul Muite, asked the court to release him on bail, citing that he had been in custody since June 19, 2019, and was yet to be formally charged.
Justice Francis Andayi, who presided over the case, agreed to release Alai on bail, citing that the offense was serious but that Alai had been in custody for long enough.
Alai was released on KSh 300,000 bail, which he paid in cash.
He was released on July 2, 2019, after being in custody for 14 days.
