On July 2, 2019, Android Kenya reported that despite Google expanding Android Q beta testing to include over 15 non-Pixel phones, none of them were Samsung Galaxy devices. This came as a surprise, given Samsung's claim to lead while others follow.
Based on past experience with Samsung software update plans, Android Kenya compiled a list of devices they believed the Korean company would upgrade to the stable Android Q beginning later this year. This list is not official, but it's based on their past experience.
According to the list, Samsung Galaxy devices with Android 9 Pie preinstalled are guaranteed updates to Android Q. These devices include:
- Samsung Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+
- Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+
- Samsung Galaxy Note 9
- Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A6/A6+ (2018)
- Samsung Galaxy A80
- Samsung Galaxy A70
- Samsung Galaxy A60
- Samsung Galaxy A50
- Samsung Galaxy A40
- Samsung Galaxy A30
- Samsung Galaxy A20
- Samsung Galaxy A10
- Samsung Galaxy J6/J6+
- Samsung Galaxy J8
- Samsung Galaxy M10
- Samsung Galaxy M20
- Samsung Galaxy M30
- Samsung Galaxy M40
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e
- Samsung Galaxy Tab S4
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019)
- Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018)
However, devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8 are not included in the list. This is because they have already received two major Android OS upgrades, ending with Android 9 Pie.
While the release date for Android Q remains uncertain, Android Kenya expects the One UI beta for Android Q to arrive in Q4 2019 for the Galaxy S10. The first stable version should arrive in early 2020.
