Tanzanian actress Wema Sepetu has made a shocking revelation about her time in jail. According to her, she contracted a viral disease while behind bars.

Wema Sepetu was arrested and spent a week in jail after defying court orders by skipping court hearings. She was released on bail on June 24, 2019.

Speaking exclusively to a Tanzanian media house, Wema Sepetu revealed the terrifying moments she experienced while locked away. She claimed to have contracted a disease and was admitted to hospital.

Wema Sepetu said: 'Kwanza mbu ni wengi, walining'ata sana.' (Translation: 'At first, many of us were very scared.')

She further explained: 'Nilipimwa malaria, uti na vipimo vingine, lakini ugojwa haukubainika, alichonishauri daktari wangu ni kuwa ipo haja ya kupima vipimo vingine ili kujua.' (Translation: 'I was tested for malaria, typhoid, and other diseases, but the diagnosis was inconclusive. My doctor advised me to test for Dangue, a mosquito-borne viral disease, as I am still sickly.')

When asked if she might have fallen sick before her arrest, Wema Sepetu clarified: 'Hapana, wakati naenda mahabusu nilikuwa nimeshapona muda mrefu, matatizo niliyapata huko.' (Translation: 'No, when I went to court, I had been feeling unwell for a long time, and I experienced problems while I was there.')

Wema Sepetu's next court hearing is scheduled for July 4, 2019.
