On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, blogger Robert Alai was charged with two serious offenses, including treachery and disclosure of information, contrary to the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
According to Milimani Principal Magistrate Francis Andayi, the charges could attract a life sentence, making them extremely serious.
Alai, who has been in custody since June 19, is accused of sharing gory photographs of police officers who were killed in an attack in Wajir on June 14.
The officers were pursuing attackers who had raided a village in Konton and kidnapped three Kenya Police Reserve officers.
Alai's lawyer, Paul Muite, pleaded with the court to release his client on a 'manageable' bail term, citing the need for Alai to reunite with his young family.
The prosecution did not object to Alai's release on bail conditions, and he was subsequently released on a cash bail of 300,000 shillings or a bond of 500,000 shillings.
The case will be mentioned on July 16, 2018, and a hearing will follow on August 8, 2019.
