On July 2, 2019, Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore passed away at his Nairobi home after a long battle with Leukemia.

As the nation mourns his loss, his family has revealed plans for a private funeral ceremony to be held tomorrow.

According to Hellena Campbell, a family member, Bob Collymore had specifically requested that President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga speak at his funeral, which is why they have been invited.

However, Deputy President William Ruto will not be attending the ceremony, as the family has chosen not to invite Kenya's top government officials.

Bob Collymore had been battling Leukemia for a long period and had taken a nine-month medical leave in late 2017 to undergo cancer treatment in England.

He returned to Kenya in July 2018 and had been planning to step down as CEO due to health reasons, but the government's insistence that he be succeeded by a Kenyan had delayed announcing a replacement.
