AFCON 2019: Kenyans Turn on Victor Wanyama

Published on July 2, 2019, at 10:29 AM

Kenya's Harambee Stars suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Senegal in their last AFCON Group C match, played on July 1, 2019, at the 30 June Stadium. The loss has sparked widespread criticism of the team's performance, with many Kenyans turning their anger and frustration towards captain Victor Wanyama.

Despite a bright start to the match, the Stars failed to convert their chances, and Senegal took advantage of their opponents' mistakes. Sadio Mane scored a penalty and a second goal from the spot, while Ismaila Sarr volleyed into the top right corner to make it 1-0 in the 63rd minute.

Many Kenyans have taken to social media to express their disappointment and frustration with Wanyama's performance, with some accusing him of being a 'passenger' in the game. Others have questioned his impact on the team and have even joked about him playing for a lower-tier team.

With the defeat, Kenya now faces a nervous wait to find out if they can make it through as one of the four best third-placed teams.
