On July 27, 2021, Tusker FC announced that their captain, Hashim Sempala, had left the club after his two-year contract expired.

The League leaders stated that Sempala had opted not to renew his contract, allowing him to seek 'greener pastures'.

Tusker FC chairman Daniel Aduda expressed gratitude for Sempala's service, saying, "We want to thank Hashim for his services and what he has offered to the club. We had a mutual conversation where he informed us of his intention to seek greener pastures after the expiry of his contract and as a club we respected his decision."

Sempala joined Tusker FC midway through the 2016 season and was a key player in their double-winning campaign, helping the team claim the league and Cup titles.

He had previously left the club for a brief stint at Gor Mahia but returned to Tusker FC, where he has been the captain since and a core figure in coach Robert Matano's side.

With his contract expired, Sempala is set to join a Zambian club immediately, as they begin their pre-season training.
