On July 27, 2021, a post-mortem examination was conducted on the body of policewoman Caroline Kangogo in Eldoret, revealing that she died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor, the bullet entered through the right chin and pierced through the spine, damaging her brain before exiting through the left side of the skull.

Dr. Oduor stated that the gun was close to the skin on the right side of the chin, and there was a gunshot wound on the left side of the head just above the ear.

He added that more laboratory tests would be carried out to determine the actual nature of the death, but remained non-committal on whether it was death by suicide.

Caroline Kangogo, who was being sought for the murder of her colleague John Ogweno and Juja-based businessman Peter Ndwiga, was found dead at the family's bathroom in Nyawa village, Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet county.

Police had initially ruled the death as suicide, but high-profile lawyers raised concerns about the position Kangogo was found in and whether her death was actually by suicide.

Lawyers, including Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi, disputed the suicide story, citing the locked bathroom and lack of blood splatter as evidence.

However, Kangogo's father, Mzee Barnabas Kibor, a former police inspector, insisted that all signs pointed to suicide, citing the locked bathroom and the fact that the bullet exited through the left ear.

He also disputed that his daughter was left-handed, saying she was indeed right-handed.

The family has announced that it will not honour Kangogo's wishes to be cremated in a wedding gown, and will only set the burial after the DCI releases the post-mortem report.
