On July 13, 2021, a tragic event unfolded in Githurai, a town 15 kilometres away from Kiriri Women's University of Science & Technology, where 23-year-old Christine Ambani, a third-year student in Business Administration, met her painful death at the hands of her killer boyfriend, Kalio Makokha, a 23-year-old university student at Mt. Kenya University.

According to the DCI, Christine's body was found lying on a bed in a guest room with her neck bearing deep stab wounds. The two had booked the room for a few hours, but Makokha turned killer and mercilessly murdered Christine by stabbing her on the neck savagely and left her bleeding to her last breath.

Later, Makokha would then take over Christine's phone to demand Ksh 87,000 using the family WhatsApp group, posing as Christine and claiming that she wanted to refund her boyfriend (Makokha) the money he had spent to help her settle in the college.

Further profiling of Makokha by sleuths revealed shocking details on his criminal record. The 23-year-old has been a dangerous criminal who has previously been arrested but had been released under unclear circumstances.

On February 2, 2021, Makokha was identified as the culprit behind the murder of at least three people - his brother, his brother's wife, and their one-year-old baby. Makokha in unclear circumstances killed the three by setting their house ablaze while they were inside.

The DCI got hold of him in his rented room in the Chokaa area within Kayole and arrested him once again at around 2 am. Makokha will be arraigned in court to answer murder charges.
