Published on July 27, 2021, Kenyan rally driver Carl 'Flash' Tundo has made history by winning the 2021 Rally of Tanzania, propelling him to the top of the African Rally Championship title race.

Driving a VW Polo R5 sponsored by Minti Motorsport and Safaricom, Tundo dominated the five stages, clocking an impressive 02:07:36 hours to outpace his closest rivals, Karan Patel (Ford Fiesta R5) and Ugandan Yasin Nasser (Subaru).

This victory marks Tundo's second win of the season in the R5 car, following his triumph at the ARC Equator Rally in April 2021. He also finished 9th overall in the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally that made a comeback in Kenya after a 19-year absence.

Meanwhile, Safaricom-sponsored FIA Rally Star Program youngster Jeremy Wahome, navigated by Victor Okundi, drew on his experience from the WRC Safari Rally to finish 5th, beating seasoned driver Issa Amwari who finished 6th. This was Wahome's second rally event, having finished 16th in the WRC Safari Rally last month.
