Safaricom CEO Bob Collymore's courageous battle against cancer has come to an end. He passed away on July 1, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones.

Collymore was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2018 and had been undergoing treatment since then. His condition worsened a few weeks ago, and despite his best efforts, he succumbed to the disease.

As reported earlier, Bob Collymore had been open about his health struggles, sharing his experiences with local media outlets. In an interview with Biko Zulu last year, he spoke candidly about his perception of morality and the inevitability of death.

"Death is inevitable, and I have made the decision not to cling on the thought of it because it will eventually come; I just do not know when," he said.

Collymore's friends and family have been left reeling by his passing, with his best friend, Jeff Koinaange, revealing that they had known his condition was terminal. "We had known this was coming. Bob had informed us so we knew that he wasn’t gonna last very long," Koinaange said.

On the eve of his passing, Collymore invited his friends over to his house and shared his final wishes with them. "If I get three more days, I will be lucky," he calmly told them. "We asked what we must do, should we part. ‘Stay together, stand by Wambui,'" he said.
