On Saturday, July 24, police officer David Kurgat's life came to an abrupt end after he collapsed and died shortly after leaving his girlfriend's house in Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.
According to his friends and colleagues, Kurgat was in good spirits on Friday, leaving them surprised to hear of his sudden demise the following day.
His girlfriend, Lucy Chepkorir, who resides 1 kilometre North West of Olenguruone Police Station, stated that Kurgat visited her home on the fateful day and was allegedly given a cup of tea minutes before he collapsed.
A post-mortem is yet to be conducted to establish the cause of death, with the family calling upon the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti and the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to intervene and help speed up investigations.
DCI detectives are currently probing the matter, with Chepkorir under custody of Keringet Police Station for seven days pending investigation.
"He said he was held up and could not make it," Kurgat's friend William Randich told the Nation about their planned dinner.
"My husband has never been sick. He was healthy. He never told us he was sick or if anything was bothering him. I was shocked when I received the news of his death," Kurgat's wife Sophie Kurgat stated.
