On July 26, police in Garissa County made a significant arrest in the fight against human trafficking. Two men, Abass Salat Aden and Jailan Musa Mbaraka, were apprehended in Dadaab, Garissa County, after being found with five minors.
The minors, aged between 2 and 7 years, were being transported to Mombasa when they were intercepted by police officers from Alango Police Patrol Base. The children were identified as Nasra Ahmed Mohamed, 7, Asid Abdikarim, 6, Anisa Abdikarim, 2, Dekow Abdikarim, 3, and a 4-year-old Ayan Abdikarim.
After interrogation, police suspected that the two men could be involved in human trafficking. According to a police OB report, Jailan Musa Mbaraka failed to provide a satisfactory account of the minors, claiming to be their biological father. However, a translator revealed that the suspect was lying.
The suspects were placed in custody at Dadaab Police Station pending further interrogation by a multi-agency team.
