On July 27, 2021, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts on corruption charges, following his arrest the previous week.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, fraudulent acquisition of public property, money laundering, acquisition of proceeds of crime, and conflict of interest.
The charges against Rigathi Gachagua include allegedly unlawfully receiving approximately Sh7.4 billion.
He was released on a cash bail of Sh.12 million with an alternative of Sh.25 million bond, and was directed to surrender his passport and not contact witnesses.
The pre-trial is scheduled for August 9, with the other accused persons summoned to appear before the court on August 3.
