Published on July 27, 2021, Chelsea legend John Terry has ended his three-year tenure as assistant manager at Aston Villa.
John Terry, 40, has announced his decision to leave the club to concentrate on the next step of his managerial career.
"It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have spent these last three years at Aston Villa, but I feel now is the right time to make the extremely difficult decision to move on," Terry said in a statement.
He expressed his gratitude to the manager and staff at Aston Villa, stating that he wants to be respectful and not disrupt the team's preparations for the new season.
Terry plans to visit clubs and managers in Europe to further his goal of becoming a manager.
"It has always been my ambition to move into football management, and providing the right opportunity presents itself, I feel ready to take up such a challenge," he said.
Dean Smith, Villa's boss, has expressed his disappointment at losing Terry but respects his decision.
"John has played a huge role in the success the club has enjoyed over the last few years and has been very supportive to me throughout that period," Smith said.
Terry joined Villa from Chelsea in 2017 and helped the team achieve Premier League promotion in 2019.
