On a recent site visit to Konza Technopolis, the Senate Committee on Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) expressed admiration for the project's progress, despite facing financial constraints.
Chairman of the Committee, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, led the delegation, which included Kitui County Senator Enoch Wambua, Laikipia County Senator John Kinyua, and nominated Senator Petronilla Were.
During the tour, the committee inspected the National Data Centre, which was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier this month.
The committee members were briefed on various aspects of the project, including its legal and financial status, achievements, ongoing activities, challenges, and potential areas of legislative and policy collaboration.
Senator Moi noted that the Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) management was transforming the technopolis into a technology and innovation hub, as envisioned by Vision 2030.
“Today they have got the data centres which we have seen are up and running. We have seen they are now building the university for technology and of course the infrastructure which is on-going in conformity with what the world is currently embracing, which is green,” Senator Moi added.
With 15 start-ups currently operating at Konza, the Senator emphasized the Authority's position as a hub for innovation and technology, likening it to the success of M-PESA.
The committee has pledged to support the Konza Bill, which aims to anchor the project in law.
