Published on July 26, 2021, a court order had suspended the construction of Safaricom's Staff Pension Project after Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company (MAVWASCO) accused the firm of building on top of sewer lines.
The case, filed and certified as urgent on July 14, 2021, will be heard on July 27, 2021. The court had issued a restraining order, directing Safaricom and its contractors to stop construction on top of the sewer line.
However, the contractor, Prestine Contractors Limited, was found to be in breach of the court order, with some construction ongoing. MAVWASCO had filed a petition against Safaricom Pension Trustees Project and Prestine Contractors Limited, alleging that the ongoing construction was interfering with the company's sewerage system and would affect hundreds of residents in the surrounding estates.
The court further directed the Athi-river officer commanding (OCS) station to enforce the restraining order. Both parties have been ordered to appear before the court on July 27, 2021.
