On July 26, 2021, a Nairobi court issued a ruling that barred media houses from covering a child upkeep case against Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka.
The case involves a woman who claims Lusaka impregnated her and refused to take responsibility, seeking Sh25 million in child support for the unborn baby.
According to the woman's lawyer, Danstan Omari, his client and Lusaka were in an intimate relationship from 2018 to May 2021, during which time she became pregnant.
Lusaka allegedly insisted on terminating the pregnancy, but the woman declined, and she is now three months pregnant.
The court granted a gag order, preventing all media houses from accessing, publishing, airing, narrating, or commenting on the case.
Reports indicate that the two parties have been in talks to resolve the matter out of court.
