On the heels of producing 100,000 vehicles since its inception in 1977, Isuzu East Africa is set to boost its annual vehicle production in Kenya to 11,000 units.

According to Isuzu East Africa chief executive officer Rita Kavashe, the ambitious plan will see the company increase its production capacity from the current 40% to meet the growing demand for commercial vehicles in the region.

Ms. Kavashe revealed that the company has invested over Sh. 2 billion in capacity expansion over the last few years, including the establishment of Kenya's first-ever Electro-Deposition Paint facility.

Isuzu East Africa currently has nine dealers across East Africa, and Ms. Kavashe noted that the company will continue to expand its dealer network to meet the growing demand for its vehicles.

“Our installed capacity is to produce close to 11,000 vehicles annually. Our capacity utilisation currently is about 40 percent where we are producing about 5,000 trucks. We have the capacity to scale up regionally in terms of production capability. Isuzu has been strong in the commercial vehicle market,” she said in an interview with a local daily on July 26, 2021.
