Despite the negative effects of sugar, many people are unaware of the misconceptions surrounding it. One common myth is that raw sugar is a healthier option than refined sugar. However, this is not the case.

Raw sugar, also known as turbinado sugar, is made by boiling sugarcane juice once, leaving behind some molasses. This process gives it a golden color, but it still lacks valuable nutrients. In contrast, white sugar is made by boiling sugarcane juice multiple times, removing all the molasses and leaving behind a white, nutrient-poor sugar.

Another misconception is that sugar-free products do not contain sugar. While it is true that these products do not contain refined sugar, they often contain artificial sweeteners like aspartame and saccharin, which have been linked to various health problems.

Additionally, many people believe that sugar makes children hyperactive. However, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim. In fact, research suggests that sugar has no effect on children's behavior.

Finally, some people believe that sugar causes tooth decay. However, this is not entirely accurate. While sugar can contribute to tooth decay, it is actually the bacteria in plaque that causes cavities. To prevent tooth decay, it is essential to brush teeth regularly, floss, oil pull, and rinse with water.
