Surviving Trauma: A Young Man's Story of Abuse and Redemption

Published on July 26, 2021, a young man's story of surviving trauma and finding redemption has left many in awe. Henry Karanja, a Kenyan teenager, shares his harrowing experience of being molested by an uncle, and how he eventually found the strength to overcome his trauma and help others.

Henry's ordeal began in 2015 when he was just 14 years old. He had developed stomach complications and was admitted to the hospital for two weeks. After being discharged, he was given bed rest for another two weeks at home. It was during this time that his uncle, who had always been a stranger to him, requested to meet with him for a few days before he returned to school.

Henry's parents, unaware of the danger that lay ahead, allowed him to go with his uncle. It was then that the nightmare began. Henry's uncle told him to sleep without clothes on, suggesting that his clothes were dirty. He also said, 'men don't sleep in clothes.' Henry, naive and trusting, obeyed his uncle. However, late in the night, he felt his uncle touching him. He woke up and confronted him, but to his dismay, his uncle boldly said that he wanted to make love to him.

Henry was shocked and tried to get out of bed, but his uncle overpowered him, tied him to the bed, and gagged his mouth with a piece of cloth. After that, he molested Henry. The next morning, Henry's uncle untied him and told him to clean himself up. Lying there in a pool of blood, Henry felt ashamed and hated himself. What hurt him the most was that his uncle was not even remorseful for his actions.

Henry's ordeal did not end there. He soon found himself in another trap, meeting a man online who invited him to his place for a 'gathering.' He ran away from home and went to the place in Kasarani, where he found a group of young men who were homosexuals. Despite his initial reservations, Henry was enticed by the promise of money and soon joined the group.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Henry lost everything he had and was desperate for money. He consulted a friend, who introduced him to a cult with the promise of making a lot of money. Shockingly, he was told that he had to kill his mother first. That's when it hit him that he had gone too far and needed to stop.

Henry eventually opened up to his parents and told them everything. It was a sad moment for his family, but from there, he started his life afresh. He immediately started an organization called Inspire and Transpire Youth Organisation, which helps young people make good life choices.

Henry's story is a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Despite facing unimaginable trauma and abuse, he was able to overcome his experiences and help others. His message to parents and youth is clear: never trust anyone, whether relatives or friends, because many of them are predators. Also, youth need guidance on making the right decisions for their lives.
