On Saturday, a devastating series of crashes involving intoxicated drivers left multiple people dead in Queens and Harlem.
One of the fatal accidents occurred on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Queens, where a 10-year-old girl, Isabella Granobles, and her mother, Diana Granobles, 31, were killed in a crash involving a Nissan Altima driven by Tyrone Absolam, 42. According to the Queens district attorney's office, Mr. Absolam had bloodshot eyes and failed two field sobriety tests, and was driving at a high rate of speed.
Mr. Absolam was taken into police custody and faces several charges, including aggravated vehicular homicide, manslaughter, assault, child endangerment, and driving while intoxicated. If convicted on the top count, he faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison.
Another fatal accident occurred in Harlem, where Jason Graham, 41, of Newburgh, N.Y., was killed when a Dodge Durango driven by Batista Rosario, 30, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., slammed into him as he rode his motorcycle southbound down Frederick Douglass Boulevard.
Mr. Rosario was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and remained at the scene.
