On May 16, 2021, a violent altercation broke out between Gu Xiong, Jin Ping, and Dong Chen Pang at the Kingston apartment in Nairobi, leaving Pang with serious injuries.

According to the police report, the dispute began over a bet, with Xiong and Pang disagreeing over the outcome of a game called Magician, a gambling game.

As the argument escalated, Ping joined in, punching Pang in the face and injuring his left eye. The two men then wrestled Pang to the ground, beating him until neighbors intervened.

Despite the severity of the attack, Xiong and Ping pleaded guilty to the offense and were given the option of paying a fine of Sh100,000 or serving a year in jail.

Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Mwaniki ultimately sentenced each of the men to serve one year in jail, citing the need for a deterrent sentence.

“Nonetheless, they admitted a crime and injury resulted from it. A deterrent sentence is called. I hereby sentence each of them to pay a fine of Sh100, 000 or serve one year in jail,” ruled the magistrate.
