Published on July 25, 2021, Tigoni Hospital in Limuru Constituency, Kiambu County has been overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients, prompting the hospital to close its doors to non-COVID-19 patients.

According to sources within the hospital, the surge in COVID-19 cases is linked to the recent by-elections in Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward in Kabete sub-county, which took place ten days ago.

Doctors who spoke to K24 Digital anonymously revealed that the hospital is receiving a large number of COVID-19 patients, with many of them being elderly individuals.

“Things are not good here. We are receiving many COVID-19 patients and losing many of them. Many of them are the elderly. We think all this is as a result of the gatherings that took place in Kiambaa and Muguga by-elections,” one of the doctors said.

Kiambu Governor James Nyoro had earlier expressed concern over the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases at Tigoni Hospital, stating that he would hold an emergency meeting with health experts to discuss the situation.
