On a fateful Sunday, July 25, Mathare United's relegation nightmare took a turn for the worse as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wazito FC in Thika. This setback came as Vihiga United secured a vital 2-0 win over Western Stima in Nakuru, further widening the gap between the two teams.

Mathare United had a promising start to the match, with most of the chances falling their way in the first half. However, poor finishing and astute goalkeeping from Peter Odhiambo kept Wazito FC in the game.

The turning point of the match came in the second half with the introduction of Vincent Oburu, who scored the opener just nine minutes after coming on. He then completed his brace two minutes later with a low volley inside the box.

Mathare United refused to give up, and two minutes after going down, they halved the deficit with a volley from David 'Cheche' Ochieng. Despite their best efforts, the slum boys were unable to find an equalizer, and the match ended with Wazito FC emerging victorious.
