On July 25, 2021, Kenya's national women volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, faced off against Japan at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan, in their opening match of the Olympics.

Despite a strong start, the African team struggled to keep pace with their opponents, losing the first two sets 25-15 and 25-11.

However, in the third set, the Malkia Strikers showed signs of life, trailing their hosts 8-6 at the first technical time out. They continued to apply pressure, but ultimately fell short, losing the set 25-23.
