On July 24, 2021, Xiaomi announced that it would be adding a memory expansion feature to its MIUI 13, a move that mirrors the efforts of Chinese companies OPPO, Vivo, and Realme.

The new feature, which will be available after a software update, will allow users to utilize a portion of their internal storage as RAM, effectively increasing the device's memory capacity.

According to a screenshot from the Xiaomi phone's settings page, the feature will be enabled through a toggle switch, giving users the option to turn it on or off.

The introduction of this feature is expected to benefit budget smartphones with limited RAM, enabling them to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and increasing their overall productivity.

However, some sources suggest that the virtual RAM feature may only be available on high-end devices powered by top-end Snapdragon 865, 870, and 888 chipsets, which already possess ample memory capacity.
