On July 24, 2021, a funeral in Muhoroni, Kisumu County, turned tragic after a dispute over speaking arrangements escalated into chaos, resulting in the fatal stabbing of one person.

The incident occurred during the burial of Lazarus Obiero, the Human Resource Manager of the Kisumu County Assembly. The dispute began when County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro stated that he would be the last to speak, citing protocol as the reason. However, Mp Onyango Koyoo, who was hosting the event, insisted that he would be in charge of the program.

The disagreement sparked a melee, with a group of youth accusing the organizers of failing to observe protocol. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, forcing mourners to scramble for safety and storm out of the funeral.

Police officers were quick to respond to the scene, arresting the suspect who was fleeing with the murder weapon still in his hands. The body of the deceased was taken to the Ahero sub-county hospital mortuary, while the body of the man stabbed to death was also taken to the same mortuary.

Several leaders were in attendance at the funeral, including Kisumu Senator Fred Outa and Ex-Governor Jack Ranguma.
