On July 24, 2021, a chaotic scene unfolded at the burial of Kisumu County Assembly's Human Resource Manager Lazarus Obera in Muhoroni, Kisumu County.

As the mourners gathered, a group of youths allied to Governor Anyang' Nyong'o stopped their rivals from addressing the mourners, sparking a shouting match that quickly escalated into a fight.

One of the youths stabbed the deceased, and gunshots were heard as police officers attempted to restore calm. The suspect was shot in the leg and disarmed by the police.

The burial service was disrupted, and the programme was forced to end prematurely. The family of the deceased and the church whisked the coffin away and laid him to rest at Ahero Mortuary.

According to Ahero Sub County Hospital Superintendent Bernard Owino, the body of the deceased was brought to the mortuary with stab wounds.

“We received the body, and it had stab wounds,” he confirmed.
