On July 24, 2021, Instagram launched a new tool that translates foreign content in Stories, making it easier for users to connect with global audiences.
With over 90 languages supported, the feature allows users to tap a 'See Translation' prompt at the top left of the screen to view the text in their preferred language.
Users can also access the translation feature by clicking the 'See Translation' banner in the upper left-hand corner of a Story, which will display the original text alongside a translation.
How to Use the Translation Feature ¶
- Open Instagram on your iPhone.
- Open a Story that includes foreign-language text.
- Tap the 'See Translation' prompt at the top left of the screen.
- View the translation in your preferred language.
Instagram's built-in translator has been able to translate captions, comments, and profile bios since 2016. The new feature expansion now includes the ability to translate story texts.
As Instagram continues to grow its user base, investing in features that make content more accessible and inclusive is crucial.
