On July 14, the lifeless body of Edward Irungu Njaro, a Kikuyu Benga music businessman, was spotted in Masinga dam in Embu County, four days after he went missing from his Kasarani home in Nairobi.
A post-mortem examination carried out at Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary on Thursday evening revealed that Mr. Njaro died from drowning.
Forensic pathologist Dr. Phyllis Muhonja Kivisi observed that there was obstruction of airwaves and froth in the trachea, indicating death by drowning.
Dr. Kivisi also noted that Mr. Njaro's body had started decomposing.
Police initially believed that the musician could have killed himself over a Sh700,000 debt, as indicated in a suicide note saved on his phone.
However, Mr. Njaro's family dismissed the suicide theory, with his father, Mr. Njaro Wairatu (73), alleging that his son's disappearance was stage-managed to create the impression that he had killed himself over an unpaid loan.
Mr. Wairatu also claimed that he received a call on Wednesday from a hidden number, with the caller promising him money if he stopped speaking to the media about the demise of his son.
