On Friday, July 23, 2021, Nairobi police rescued 10 children who were being held against their will and used to beg in the city's Central Business District.
The children, aged between 6 and 18, were rescued by the police in the wee hours of the morning after they were alerted of their illegal detention.
According to police, the children were being held in the Lunga Lunga slums of Nairobi and were transported there from an unknown location on the night of Thursday, July 22.
Police managed to arrest an 18-year-old boy who was keeping watch over the minors, but the main suspect remains at large.
The rescued children hail from Mwiki, Kariobangi, Mathare, and Shauri Moyo.
This incident comes on the backdrop of a series of child abduction cases in the country, following the arrest of two child abductors and serial murderers, Masten Wanjala and Evans Wanjala, who carried out a series of murders of young children.
Both serial killers have been detained and have brought fear to many parents in the country who worry for the safety of their children.
