On July 23, 2021, a confrontation between Robert Alai, a contentious blogger, and Ringtone, a gospel artist, turned violent in Nairobi. The incident led to Alai's arrest and subsequent charges of raid and vandalism.
According to Andrew Muturi, Kilimani OCPD, Alai vandalized Ringtone's car and will face additional charges of brutal damage to property.
Ringtone claimed that the problem began when Alai declined to give way at a junction, despite the traffic lights turning green. Alai allegedly followed Ringtone's car along Oliotoktok Road, blocked his way, and hit him with a rungu on the head.
Ringtone's Range Rover was also damaged in the incident. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Lord Abraham Mutai, a Twitter user, responded to the incident, calling Ringtone a 'desperate attention seeker' and a 'failed musician.'
Ringtone throws CHILDISH STUNTS and tantrums you might confuse him for someone from Kebirigo. Especially when he realised the stunt now involves Robert Alai. Asante Alai Kwa kumfinya. Placing him in his corner. A desperate attention seeker. Failed musician. Zero creativity. pic.twitter.com/3bovKpuSjS
