Uhuru Promotes Francis Ogolla to Vice Chief of Defence Forces

July 23, 2021 - Nairobi, Kenya - President Uhuru Kenyatta has made significant changes in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) by promoting Major General Francis Ogolla to Lieutenant General and appointing him as the Vice Chief of Defence Forces.

Major General Ogolla, who joined the Kenya Air Force in 1984 and was promoted to the rank of Major General in July 2018, will replace Lieutenant General Franklin Mghalu who is retiring after 40 years in service.

Other notable promotions include Major General Albert Kendagor to the rank of Lieutenant General, who will serve as the AMISON Force Commander, and Major General William Shume who will now be the Kenya Army Deputy Commander.

Major General Mohamed Badi was also promoted to Lieutenant General, but will remain as the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director-General.

Brigadier John Omenda was promoted to the rank of Major General and named Air Force Commander, with Brigadier Peter Githinji as his deputy.
