On July 23, 2021, the government issued a statement to clarify the relocation of internet-related infrastructure along the Rironi-Mau Summit highway.

Government Spokesperson Cyrus Oguna dismissed reports alleging a disruption in internet services due to the transfer of fibre cables.

"The headline is misleading and we wish to clarify that the relocation of internet-related infrastructure to allow for the construction of the Rironi-Mau Summit highway will not in any way disrupt the provision of internet services," Oguna stated.

He further clarified that the transfer process would be conducted in four phases, with the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs working in conjunction with the Ministry of Infrastructure through KeNHA to ensure zero effect on internet supply.

ICT Principal Secretary Jerome Ochieng' separately clarified details of the transfer, stating that the cables are used by telecommunications providers and that the project has strict timelines to ensure its completion.

"Once the relocation is complete, the project will continue to deliver socio-economic transformation and help develop a huge information highway from the heart of Kenya to the rest of the country," Ochieng' stated.
