Published on July 23, 2021, OnePlus unveiled its latest 5G smartphone, the Nord 2 5G, aimed at taking on flagship devices with its impressive specs while keeping prices in check.
The device relies on MediaTek's 5G Dimensity 1200 AI chipset, which offers near-flagship performance. It comes with 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.
The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 AI chipset is manufactured using 6nm TSMC process technology and features an octa-core CPU with a 1+3+4 configuration and an Arm Mali-G77 MC9 GPU. This processor includes one ultra-core Arm Cortex-A78 core that can reach up to 3GHz for extreme performance, three Arm Cortex-A78 super cores, and four 2.0GHz Arm Cortex-A55 efficiency cores.
On the display and camera front, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G boasts a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The front camera is a 32MP sensor located in the punch hole at the top left corner, while the rear camera features a triple camera setup.
The primary camera uses a 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor, similar to the flagship OnePlus 9 Pro smartphone. This includes optical image stabilization for shake-free shots and videos and Digital Overlap HDR (DOL-HDR) to fine-tune exposure data from two images into one final shot. The two secondary cameras include an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP monochrome lens.
The device runs on Oxygen OS 11.3 based on Android 11, with a promise of two major Android updates and three years of security updates. The battery is a dual-cell with a capacity of 4,500 mAh, claimed to last for two days, and is powered by 65W Warp Charge fast charging technology that can fully charge from 0% to 100% in just 30 minutes.
The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is available in the European and Indian markets, with the basic model starting at €399 (approximately Ksh 43,211) for the 6GB/128GB configuration. It comes in three colors: Blue Haze, Gray Sierra, and Green Woods.
