July 23, 2021, marked a turning point in the life of Joseph Muchwe Karanja, a 38-year-old recovering alcoholic and TV presenter. After years of struggling with addiction, he finally found the strength to overcome his demons and start anew.

Joseph's journey began in 2005, during his time at the National Youth College in Gilgil. He was introduced to alcohol by his friends and quickly became addicted. The year 2005 would go down in history as the year he descended into the depths of alcoholism.

As his addiction worsened, Joseph's relationships began to suffer. He was dismissed from the college due to indiscipline and was forced to return to his home village. He immersed himself in alcohol to console himself and escape the shame he had brought upon his parents.

Joseph's addiction had a devastating impact on his health. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis in 2011 and was forced to stay off alcohol for eight months. During this time, he discovered a talent for writing and public speaking. However, after his recovery, he returned to his old habits and continued to struggle with addiction.

It wasn't until 2013 that Joseph finally found the strength to overcome his addiction. He made a decision to stop drinking and has been sober ever since. The journey to recovery was not easy, but Joseph credits his faith and the support of his loved ones for his success.

Today, Joseph is a passionate advocate against alcohol and substance abuse. He uses his platform to reach out to young people and help them avoid the pitfalls of addiction. His story is a testament to the power of redemption and the importance of seeking help when struggling with addiction.
